On The Real Side with SAM NOTO as Guest!

Earlier this summer we had the thrilling privilege to have Sam Noto call in to our video-based podcast, On the Real Side with Bob Mover as host. It features Sam's long-time associate, Kirk MacDonald. We started our podcast 1-2 years ago, but then a few things got in the way during the pandemic, as many can imagine. WE'RE BACK & in full swing!

Every month we will conduct a podcast with a noted Jazz musician. The Sam Noto podcast will be available for listening and viewing pleasure by early October.

Here are some highlights about Sam's incredible career ...

Sam Noto (trumpet, flugelhorn) was born in 1930, Buffalo, New York, U.S.A. Reputed as an excellent bop soloist, Noto has worked throughout North America with some of the biggest names and best bands in jazz, including Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Buddy Rich, Red Rodney, Don Menza, Joe Romano, Larry Cavelli, Louie Bellson, Kenny Shroyer, Frank Rossolino, Ed Leddy, Archie LeCoQue, Kent Larsen, Joe “Red” Kelly, Phil Gilbert, Pearl Bailey, Bob Fitzpatrick, Bill Catalano, Jim Amlotte, Anita O’Day, Lennie Niehaus, Bud Shank, Bill Perkins, Rob McConnell, Mel Lewis, Stan Kenton, and Richie Kamuca.

Noto’s only formal training on the trumpet was in grade school, but he became so proficient that he was invited to join Stan Kenton’s band as lead trumpet player while still in his early 20’s.

He is 92 years young, so don’t miss this podcast!

It will be posted in our archives this week, October 3-9, 2022.
